Trafo est un des nombreux
projets musicaux auquel participe l'autrichien Daniel Pabst.
"Circulation").

Trafo is one of the
numerous projects in which austrian
musician Daniel Pabst is involved. The actual profile of this band is a guitar
quartet, both acoustic and electric. Even if he claims he was influenced by
McLaughlin, among others, this time we should definitely investigate in Fripp's universe. However, this California Guitar Trio
"plus one" version outfit isn't that obsessed with sequences of
repeated notes, even if there are some. Here, the research is more
contemplative, more spontaneous also, and has a lot of common points with the
most introspective sides from The League of Crafty Guitarists (i think about a song like "Circulation"). But
right, we stay in the same family. Compositions are originals for most of them,
Pabst sharing the pencil with Chris Janka. Two
exceptions, and not the leasts : "Gram" from Bela Bartok and an cover from the "Transformer"'s
theme ! Trafo doesn't bother to jump from one point
to another and succeeds at linking those two distinct perspectives without
problem whatsoever. They explore jazz, folk music, classical and rock
(regarding the volume) ; meaning we can find the
spirit of all those peculiar approaches into each of the eleven songs that make
"Dogtales". For his first album, Trafo doesn't make the mistake that should have consisted
at dividing up their spreading influences but actually finds its way to its own
proper language. Its freezing elegance shines like the sun in winter on the Karplatz's ground recovered in snow.
